Water Wipeout – Press Release

Water Wipeout obstacle race and mud run

X-Runner just got really really wet! And so did all the eager entrants as they attended the second Water Wipeout on Saturday 23rd June.

Last year xrunner introduced its wettest event yet and hundreds of runners turned out for the extreme challenge. The potential the course at the National Water Sports Centre presented was obvious after the elation of last year’s runners so this year Water Wipeout got tougher, wetter and much much better and 1600 people have never enjoyed themselves so much on the ultimate obstacle course and mud run!

Runners set off from near the main score board and within seconds the hose down began with a leap into the regatta lake. After a quick cold soak to shock the system it’s out and over the infamous x-runner obstacle course – no gentle start on this course! Then enter the fresh green leafy nature reserve for a calming cool run through the woods – NOT! After just a few seconds the first obstacles rear up before runners and then appears the mud, over balance beams, through muddy tunnels, tyre climbs and water wades, runners emerged from the woods and actually looked relieved to wade through the swamp of doom.

This year the infamous x-runner obstacle course was split into two parts so no part of the 10k run gave you the opportunity to rest. After climbing out of the swamp of doom x-runners were faced with this year’s newest obstacle the ‘Jacob’s Ladder’ a 15ft frame of poles to scale and descend in soaking wet shoes, hmmm slippery! Just when they feel like they can take no more the course puts them back in the water AGAIN, but this time they enter via the legendary x-runner waterslide with over 50ft of water sending them splashing at force into the murky lake ‘Muddy Good Fun’ or what?

With two laps of obstacle packed 5k course to run this event has more challenges than any other race of this kind and it’s not called ‘Water Wipeout’ for nothing, runners have never been so drenched or so delighted to cross the finish line and collect their much needed goodie bags.

Wonder what will be thrown at them at the next event, Wild Thing – 23rd September 2012 at Wild Park, Brailsford, Derbyshire.
